5 Signs of a Misaligned Spine

The spine is the most important part of our body’s nervous system. It has three areas and runs from just near the skull (cervical), to your mid-body (thoracic), down to near your hips (lumbar). Our spine allows us to stand, twist, bend, and do other movements that most people take for granted. However, when it misaligned, our ability to move and do other tasks pain-free is hindered. There are signs and symptoms that you can look for to determine if you have a misaligned spine. Here at Advantage Chiropractic, we have the five most common ones you must know:

The first sign of misalignment is a curvature disorder. These are:

  • Scoliosis: a sideways curvature in the shape of an “S” or a “C”
  • Kyphosis: a hunchback posture with a rounded back
  • Lordosis: an inward curve of the lumbar spine

The second sign involves symptoms that occur with a misalignment. These include chronic migraines, neck pain or lower back pain, frequent illness, excessive daytime fatigue, tingling or numbness in the extremities, and difficulty or painful walking.

The third sign involves long-term issues such as a hunched posture, limited mobility, joint pain or stiffness, and pain while sitting, bending, or standing.

The fourth sign is a shoe test. When someone’s spine is misaligned, they often put more weight on one shoe than the other when walking. To check, look at the souls of your shoes. If one is showing more wear than the other, that’s a strong indication.

The fifth sign is if your knees and hips hurt. Poor posture puts you at risk for hip and knee pain and can place extra pressure on those joints.

Fortunately, your spine can be treated, and we can help improve your posture. Book an appointment with us at Advantage Chiropractic if you are experiencing these signs.
